South Carolina quarterback Luke Doty will undergo season-ending foot surgery later this week, coach Shane Beamer told reporters on Tuesday.

Doty is expected to be recovered prior to the start of spring drills.

Doty aggravated the foot injury during Saturday's 21-20 victory over Vanderbilt.

"Hate it for him, hate for our football team," Beamer said of Doty. "But he's in great spirits. ... Don't think it's anything that's going to affect him long term."

Doty initially injured the foot in August when it was stepped on during a practice. He missed the first two games of the season before returning to play Sept. 18 in a loss to Georgia.

Overall, he played in five games and passed for 975 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions.

Zeb Noland will start in place of Doty at No. 17 Texas AM on Saturday. Noland started the first two games of the season and has passed for 482 yards, six touchdowns and one interception in four games.

Noland, who formerly played at Iowa State and North Dakota State, came to South Carolina as a graduate assistant coach. But after Doty was injured, he was added to the roster and won the starting job.
