US government receives more cash from AIG

Fort Worth News.Net Saturday 5th May, 2012

American International Group has paid back more money for the loans made during the GFC.

The pay-back has come on the heels of massive first-quarter profits which were announced during the week.

AIG posted net income of $3.1 billion.

Insurance giant AIG was near bankruptcy at the height of the financial crisis in 2008.

The US government bailed out the company to the tune of $182 billion.

The firm has since been working to relieve itself of the debt.

AIG said it was able to pay more due to fewer catastrophe claims in the past months.

Last year the tsunami disaster in Japan took much of the insurers money.

The company still owes around $45 billion.
