Indian eves win bronze in Auckland hockey tourney

India beat the US 1-0 to claim the bronze medal in the second-leg of the Four Nation Women's Hockey Tournament at the Llyod Elsmore Hockey Stadium here Subday.


Indian midfielder Deepika scored the all-important goal in the 40th minute after the two teams were locked goalless at half time.

India showed good temperament and defended stoutly to deny goal scoring chances to US, who have already qualify to play in the London Olympics, to score.

The Indian defence and midfield was compact with Joydeep Kaur, Ausnta Lakra, Deepika and Ritu Rani making timely interceptions.

Indian goalkeeper Yogita Bali made some splendid saves and was declared the best keeper of the tournament.
